Time for lunch

I met Lyudmila for the first time for a summer lunch, a few bites in the heat of the island. Lyudmila came with her skateboard, the wide terrace there outside was tempting, the lunch became a story.

Signs of Varosha

A walk in Varosha is a walk about signs. Signs speak. They speak the Greek language of the inhabitants, and the English language of the colonizers. Signs also speak the language of the tourism, of the flourishing place, of the life. There are new signs also, speaking the urban language and the Turkish language.

Paphos Gate gatherings

At the beginning of the Sars-Cov-2 pandemic, the checkpoints connecting the North and the South of Cyprus were closed, and they have been reopened after 15 months. Some divided couples started to meet at the barricades, like Romeo and Juliet, and then many followed, sending far hugs to their friends in the other side and sharing music, poetry and paintings.

Fief*

The artist Lenia Georgiou leaded Fief, a group performance in the only place where Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots can meet, see each other, talk to each other, perform together.

The strange sound of silence

In the first summer of the Sars-Cov-2 pandemic, the Republic of Cyprus closed de facto the access to and from the North of the island, despite they recognise the people living there as their citizens and the very low spread of the virus in that permanently isolated world.
